The ONE thing every woman needs to know before buying another piece of clothing!

HOW WAISTED ARE YOU?

Knowing where your waistline falls within your shape is essential to dressing in a balanced and harmonious way. Ever put together an outfit and know it doesn’t look quite right, but you’re not sure why? It could be that you are not dressing for your waist!

This ‘horizontal line’ is as important as your ‘outline shape’ for determining which garments and what type of styling will be most flattering for you.

Let’s find your waist ‘line’ in 3 easy steps:

1) Measure the distance between your armpit and your waist.
2) Measure the distance between your waist and the bottom of your bum. 3) Compare the measurements.

If the two measurements are equal, you are even-waisted, or balanced. This ideal proportion allows for wearing just about whatever you like, including long or short tops and jackets, and belting and tucking in tops. Or not!

If the first measurement is shorter than the second measurement, you are short-waisted. A lot of women I work with have this horizontal line, including myself! Short-waisted bodies tend to look best in longer tops and jackets, as this body typically has legs that look a mile long (yay!) But you want to balance those pretty long legs with a top half that looks harmonious and not too short.

If the opposite is true, you are long-waisted, meaning your torso has lots of room to wear cropped jackets, belts and tucking in tops. This body has legs that tend to look short compared to the top half, and we want to elongate those lovely stems by wearing pants with a higher waist and longer length. A cropped pant will make the legs appear even shorter. Wearing shoes in the same color or tone as your pant, dress or skirt will also visually lengthen the legs.
